The exam is a grueling three-stage marathon:
Preliminary Examination: Two objective papers (General Studies I & II) of 200 marks each. GS-II is qualifying (33% required).
Main Examination: Six descriptive essay-type papers (250 marks each).
Interview: A personality test worth 180 marks.
Expert Strategy: Start by mastering the Assam-specific portion of the syllabus. Since you must know local languages and be an inhabitant, the exam heavily rewards deep knowledge of Assam's history, geography, and current affairs. For the Prelims, practice eliminating options because there is a one-fourth (0.25) negative marking penalty for wrong guesses.
Can final year students apply?
Ans: No, you must possess the prescribed qualification on the date you submit the application.
Is there negative marking in Prelims?
Ans: Yes, 1/4th of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
Do I need to be a resident of Assam?
Ans: Yes, you must be an original inhabitant of the state.
