The exam is a grueling three-stage marathon:
Preliminary Examination: Two objective papers (General Studies I & II) of 200 marks each. GS-II is qualifying (33% required).
Main Examination: Six descriptive essay-type papers (250 marks each).
Interview: A personality test worth 180 marks.

Since you must know local languages and be an inhabitant, the exam heavily rewards deep knowledge of Assam's history, geography, and current affairs.
