Under the Advertisement No. 4/2026(R-V), BARC is inviting applications for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) in frontier areas of Physical, Chemical, and Life Sciences.

To be eligible, candidates must have a consistently good academic record:
Standard M.Sc. Holders: Minimum 60% aggregate in B.Sc. and 55% aggregate in M.Sc..
Integrated M.Sc. / B.S-M.S.: Minimum 55% aggregate.
4-year Bachelor’s (B.S. with Research): Minimum 75% aggregate.
National Exam: Must possess a valid score/certificate in UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF), JEST, ICMR-JRF, ICAR-JRF, GATE (Physics/Chemistry/Life Sciences/Biotech), or JGEEBILS.
General/OBC Male Candidates: ₹500.
Women Candidates: Exempted (Free).
SC/ST Candidates: Exempted (Free).
PwBD Candidates: Exempted (Free).

What is the monthly stipend for BARC JRF?
Ans: The stipend is ₹37,000 for the first two years, which increases to ₹42,000 (SRF) from the third year onwards.
Can I apply if I am in my final semester of M.Sc.?
Ans: Yes, you can apply if you have at least 55% aggregate until the previous semester, provided you complete all requirements by August 10, 2026.
Is there any contingency grant?
Ans: Yes, fellows receive a contingency grant of ₹60,000 per year.
Are B.Tech or M.Tech students eligible for Life Sciences?
Ans: No, B.Tech/M.Tech degree holders in Life Science disciplines are not eligible.
Is hostel accommodation provided?
Ans: Yes, where available, stay in the hostel is mandatory. Otherwise, HRA is provided.
Will I get travel allowance for the interview?
Ans: Yes, BARC reimburses Third AC railway fare (shortest route) or limited airfare for candidates called for interviews.
What is the total duration of the fellowship?
Ans: The total duration is five years.
Do I need a valid GATE score?
Ans: You must have cleared at least one national exam like GATE, NET, JEST, or JGEEBILS.
Can I apply for multiple disciplines?
Ans: The advertisement discourages multiple applications; you should apply for the discipline most relevant to your M.Sc..
Is there any medical benefit?
Ans: Selected fellows are eligible for the Contributory Health Services Scheme (CHSS) for themselves.
