Job Description

Stepping into the realm of the judiciary as a representative of the state is a matter of immense pride and responsibility. The Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) has officially unveiled a meticulous recruitment drive for the position of Assistant District Public Prosecution Officer (ADPPO) under the aegis of the Home Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. This executive-level vacancy serves as an extraordinary gateway for law graduates seeking a highly stable, prestigious, and socially impactful career within the state's legal framework.

For ambitious individuals residing in tier-2 and tier-3 cities across India, this notification presents a golden chance to move away from the uncertainties of private litigation and embrace the long-term career stability of a Group B Gazetted Officer. Serving as an ADPPO means you become the voice of justice in the district courts, directly contributing to public safety and law enforcement. The role promises an elite status in society, a structured promotional hierarchy, and the enduring assurance of a government livelihood.

🎓

Qualification

Candidates must possess an authentic Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree awarded by a recognized Indian university. It is crucial that the ultimate declaration of your graduation result or degree certification is dated on or before the closing date of the application period (July 21, 2026); otherwise, your candidature will face disqualification during document scrutiny.

💸

Fees

  • Local Domiciles of Chhattisgarh (SC / ST / OBC Non-Creamy Layer / PwD): ₹300

  • General Category & All Out-of-State Applicants: ₹400

  • Mandatory Add-ons: All categories are liable to pay online portal charges plus applicable GST rates.

  • Note: Interestingly, local residents of Chhattisgarh who actually appear for the exam will receive a refund of their base application fee directly into their bank accounts post-examination.

🧭

Job Profile & Impact

The role of an Assistant District Public Prosecution Officer is deeply rooted in institutional responsibility and legal scholarship. Operating as a crucial bridge between the police force and the judiciary, your day-to-day operations will revolve around representing the State in criminal matters within the Magistrate Courts. A typical day involves reviewing police chargesheets, examining case files with meticulous detail, and representing the state effectively during trials.

This is predominantly an intellectual desk-cum-courtroom role, demanding sharp analytical reasoning and powerful oratory skills. Unlike routine corporate legal work, the real-world impact of an ADPPO is immediate and profound. By ensuring that criminals face the legal consequences of their actions and defending the rights of victims, you actively shape the safety metrics of your assigned district.

🎯

Who Should Apply

  • Best For: Individuals possessing a robust educational background in Law (LL.B.) who harbor a profound interest in criminal law and public justice. If you excel at structured argumentation, enjoy analyzing complex statutory provisions, and want to avoid the financial volatility of independent courtroom practice, this role is tailor-made for you. It is highly suitable for disciplined learners who prefer a position of administrative respectability and structured work hours.

  • Not Ideal For: Those who are intimidated by grueling public speaking environments, extensive legal paperwork, or the high-stakes pressure of criminal proceedings. If your professional inclinations tilt heavily toward corporate law, mergers, or private consultancies where financial bonuses take precedence over social impact, the rigid framework of state prosecution might feel overly restrictive.

🪪

Age Limit & Relaxations

  • General Minimum Entry Point: 21 Years (As of 01-01-2026)

  • General Maximum Cap (Out-of-State Candidates): 30 Years

  • Chhattisgarh Local Domicile Cap: Extended to 40 Years due to local unemployment relief extensions.

  • Cumulative Upper Age Limit Relaxation: With combinations of special categories (such as SC/ST/OBC concessions, state employee status, or widow/divorced designations), the extreme upper limit cannot cross 45 years under any circumstance.

💼

Salary & Perks

The financial package linked with this designation makes it a highly lucrative option. The post falls securely under Pay Level 9 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix, featuring a basic pay bandwidth of ₹38,100 to ₹1,204,000.

Let's estimate your actual gross compensation breakdown:

  • Basic Pay Scale: Starting at ₹38,100

  • Dearness Allowance (DA): Standard percentages dictated by the state government.

  • House Rent Allowance (HRA): Subject to geographical categorization (Class X, Y, or Z cities within Chhattisgarh).

  • Estimated Monthly Gross In-Hand Salary: Approximately ₹52,000 to ₹58,000 during initial placement.

Beyond the monthly financial credits, officers enjoy comprehensive medical check-up packages for dependents, retirement safeguards via the National Pension System (NPS), and access to government quarters or standard traveling allowances depending on operational deployment. Note that newly selected candidates undergo a 3-year probationary timeline before achieving full job confirmation.

Selection Process

The path to becoming an ADPPO involves a meticulous, two-stage evaluation designed to test both your academic foundation and your psychological readiness for the role.

Stage 1: The Written Test (300 Marks)

This stage involves a single paper spanning 3 hours, packing a total of 150 Objective Multiple-Choice Questions:

  • Part A: General Knowledge (50 Questions - 100 Marks): Encompasses Indian National Movements, historical timelines, economic indices, and an extensive deep-dive into Chhattisgarh's regional geography, administrative structures, tribal culture, and current affairs.

  • Part B: Legal Knowledge (100 Questions - 200 Marks): Divided cleanly into Major Acts (including the modern Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, and Constitutional elements) alongside crucial Minor State Acts (such as the Excise laws, IT Act, SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities framework, and local anti-witchcraft or anti-ragging mandates).

Stage 2: The Personality Assessment Interview (30 Marks)

Candidates clearing the basic cut-off limits (33% for General, 23% for Reserved Communities) will be invited for interview rounds in a 1:3 candidate-to-vacancy ratio. The cumulative total score out of 330 determines your rank on the final selection list.

Expert Strategy:

  1. Master the New Criminal Codes: Do not rely on legacy materials; prioritize comprehensive comparative tables highlighting the operational shifts from IPC/CrPC to the newly implemented BNS and BNSS frameworks.

  2. Prioritize Regional CG Data: The General Knowledge component can make or break your rank. Allocate two hours daily to master the geography, tribal traditions, and current administrative policies of Chhattisgarh.

  3. Practice with a Timer: Since wrong answers carry a steep penalty, practice mock test papers regularly to balance high speed with absolute precision.

❓

FAQ's

Q1: Can final year LL.B. students apply for this selection?

Ans: No. The official guidelines state that all essential educational certificates and degrees must be fully completed and issued on or before July 21, 2026, which is the final deadline for submitting the application form.

Q2: Is there any form of negative marking in the written test?

Ans: Yes. The written examination includes a negative marking penalty. Every incorrect answer results in the deduction of one-third (1/3) of the marks assigned to that question.

Q3: What should I do if my live photograph upload looks blurry?

Ans: If your photo appears blurry during the application process, do not click the upload button. Instead, use the "Re Capture" tool to snap a clearer picture before finalizing the process. Once submitted, modifying registration details requires a paid correction window fee of ₹500.

Q4: Can a law graduate from outside Chhattisgarh apply for these posts?

Ans: Yes. All Indian citizens are welcome to apply. However, out-of-state candidates will compete under the Unreserved (General) category, paying a base fee of ₹400, and will not be eligible for local age relaxations or domicile fee concessions.

Q5: Are there any specific physical disability categories reserved under the PwD quota?

Ans: Yes, the reservation is specifically designed only for individuals falling under the OA (One Arm) physical disability category who are local residents of Chhattisgarh. Other disability profiles are not eligible for this reservation.

Q6: Can I apply by printing out the form and mailing it to the CGPSC office?

Ans: Absolutely not. Applications are accepted strictly through the online portal. Any physical forms sent via speed post, courier, or manual delivery will be rejected automatically without notice.

Q7: What happens if I accidentally enter the wrong date of birth in my form?

Ans: You can fix this mistake during the correction windows. The free correction window runs from July 22 to July 24, 2026. After that, a final paid correction window is available on July 25 and 26, 2026, which requires a fee of ₹500.

Q8: Will I receive a physical admit card delivered to my home address via post?

Ans: No, physical hall tickets are not sent by mail. Candidates must download their admit cards directly from the official portal (www.psc.cg.gov.in), where they will be uploaded roughly 10 days prior to the test date.

Q9: Am I eligible for travel allowance compensation if I am an unemployed candidate? Ans: Yes, but this perk is exclusively available to unemployed local domiciles of Chhattisgarh who belong to the SC, ST, or OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) categories. Eligible candidates will receive cash reimbursement for ordinary sleeper/bus fares at the exam center, provided they present their pre-printed online travel allowance voucher.

Q10: Is there any minimum qualifying score required to clear the written exam stage? Ans: Yes, candidates must meet minimum sectional score thresholds to be considered for the interview shortlist. General category candidates need at least 33%, while SC, ST, and OBC candidates must score a minimum of 23% on the written paper.
