Training at these premier institutions is engineered to transform raw youth into visionary leaders capable of safeguarding the nation's sovereignty.
Stepping into a career through the NDA is not merely about securing employment; it represents a commitment to a life of profound purpose and long-term career stability. From the moment you clear the grueling selection process, the government takes complete custody of your professional growth, covering the entire expenditure of your world-class academic and physical training. Beyond the immense social prestige, this pathway offers an architectural career trajectory where promotions are clearly defined, ensuring that meritorious officers can scale the highest echelons of military leadership.

A commissioned officer in the Indian Armed Forces holds a position of immense strategic responsibility and real-world impact. In the Army Wing, an officer transitions from intense military training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) to leading an infantry sub-unit, directly managing troops, tactical field strategies, and border security operations. In the Navy Wing, officers specialize in executive branches, steering advanced naval vessels, managing maritime defense, and navigating high-stakes oceanic operations. Those entering the Air Force Flying Branch take command of sophisticated fighter jets, transport aircraft, or helicopters, conducting aerial defense and reconnaissance missions. Meanwhile, Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) officers manage the complex radar systems, aeronautical engineering assets, logistics, and administrative frameworks that keep the air wings combat-ready. The day-to-day life seamlessly blends administrative grit with high-adrenaline field operations, ensuring every action directly contributes to national security.
Students who possess an inherent passion for physical fitness, structured discipline, and an active outdoor lifestyle.
Aspirants who exhibit strong Officer Like Qualities (OLQs), such as quick decision-making, effective teamwork, spatial awareness, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Young minds from tier-2 and tier-3 cities who excel in basic mathematics and general science, looking for a highly respected, merit-driven platform to uplift their families.
Individuals seeking a standard 9-to-5 desk job with Minimal geographic relocation or low physical demands.
Candidates who struggle with rigid disciplinary frameworks or find it challenging to adapt to extreme environments and unpredictable terrain.
Those who cannot fulfill the mandatory physical and medical health standards, such as strict weight parameters or specific vision requirements.
Base Age Limit: Only unmarried male and female candidates born not earlier than January 1, 2008, and not later than January 1, 2011, are permitted to apply.
Category Relaxation: Please note that there is no age relaxation provided for OBC, SC, ST, or EWS categories under UPSC defense entry rules. The date of birth entered must precisely match your Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
During the entire duration of institutional training at the service academies, selected cadets receive a fixed stipend of Rs. 56,100/- per month (which represents the starting pay of Level 10).
Upon successful commissioning as a Lieutenant (or equivalent rank in Navy/Air Force), your pay structure accelerates substantially under the 7th Pay Commission:
Basic Pay (Level 10): Rs. 56,100/- to Rs. 1,77,500/-.

Settle Fees & Select Center: Pay the Rs. 100 fee online (if applicable). Choose your examination center early; centers are allocated on a first-apply-first-allot basis, and once a location hits its ceiling, it is frozen. Re-verify all data fields and lock your form.
Written Examination (900 Marks): Consists of two objective-type papers. Paper I covers Mathematics (300 Marks) , and Paper II is the General Ability Test (600 Marks). There is a strict negative marking penalty of one-third (0.33) marks for every incorrect answer.

Pilot Aptitude Test (CPSS): Mandatory only for candidates opting for the Air Force Flying Branch.
To successfully clear the written cutoff, your preparation must balance conceptual clarity with rapid execution. Allocate your morning hours to mastering the core elements of the Mathematics section—focus heavily on high-yield topics like Algebra, Matrices, Trigonometry, and Coordinate Geometry. For the General Ability Test (GAT), read a national English newspaper daily to instinctively solve English grammar and vocabulary challenges, which constitute 200 marks of the paper. Do not ignore the static science portions (Physics and Chemistry), as they command a predictable 40% weightage within the general knowledge section. Finally, practice previous years' question papers strictly using a black ball pen on offline OMR sheets to build accurate tracking and eliminate mechanical errors before the exam day.
Q1: Can final year school students apply for the UPSC NDA II 2026 exam?
Ans: Yes, students who are currently studying in the 12th class under the $10+2$ pattern are fully eligible to apply. They must pass the exam and submit self-attested copies of their passing marksheet to the respective Headquarters by June 10, 2027.
Q2: Is there any provision to withdraw the application or correct mistakes after final submission?
Ans: No, the Commission explicitly states that candidates are not allowed to withdraw their applications after submission. No modification or editing is permitted in any application field once it is submitted. Double-check every detail before clicking submit.
Q3: Is there a penalty for wrong answers in the written test?
Ans: Yes, there is a clear negative marking penalty for incorrect answers in the objective booklets. One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that specific question will be deducted for every wrong answer. Unanswered questions face no penalty.
Q4: Can I use a gel pen or pencil to mark my answers on the scannable OMR sheet?
Ans: No, candidates must exclusively use a black ball pen for both writing details and blackening the circles on the OMR sheet. Pencils, ink pens, or gel pens of any other color are strictly prohibited and will result in the rejection of your answer script.
Q5: What happens if there is an error or discrepancy in my uploaded photo or signature?
Ans: Uploading blurry, incorrect, or irrelevant photos/signatures is considered a major violation. It can lead to the summary rejection of your application, cancellation of candidature, or potential debarment from future exams.
Q6: Are married individuals eligible to apply for training at the National Defence Academy?
Ans: No, only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible to apply. Furthermore, candidates must sign an undertaking promising not to marry during their entire training period. Marrying during training will result in discharge and a full refund of training expenses to the government.
Q7: Are candidates belonging to OBC or EWS categories exempted from paying the exam fee?
Ans: No, fee exemption is exclusively granted to SC/ST candidates, all female applicants, and select wards of military personnel. OBC and EWS candidates must pay the full application fee of Rs. 100/-.
Q8: If I fail the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test once, can I apply for the pilot branch in a future NDA exam?
Ans: No, a candidate is allowed to take the CPSS/Pilot Aptitude Test only once in a lifetime. The grade secured during your first attempt is permanent. If you fail CPSS, you can never apply for the flying branch of the Air Force, Navy Air Arm, or GD Pilot branch again, though you remain eligible for Ground Duties.
Q9: Will the Commission send a physical copy of my Admit Card via post or email?
Ans: No, physical admit cards will not be sent by post or email under any circumstances. Eligible candidates must download their e-Admit Card directly from the official website (https://upsconline.nic.in) on the last working day of the week preceding the examination.
Q10: Are permanent body tattoos permitted on any part of the body during medical screening?
Ans: Permanent body tattoos are strictly limited to the inner face of the forearm (from the inside of the elbow down to the wrist) and the reverse side of the palm/hand. Tattoos on any other part of the body are completely unacceptable, and candidates facing this will be barred from selection. (Exemptions exist for tribal candidates following traditional customs, evaluated on a case-by-case basis) .
